Effective as of May 2, the City of Kimberley has made the decision to enter Stage 2 Water Restrictions.

In a press release City staff said this decision was made proactively in order to effectively manage water resources in response to diminished snowpack levels and a summer that is predicted to be hot and dry.

Stage 2 restrictions “encourage responsible water usage,” the City explained, “particularly in outdoor activities, to preserve our water resources.”

Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the following guidelines, which are expanded upon in the City’s Water Shortage Response Bylaw No. 2527.

Residential properties:

  • Even numbered home addresses can water on Wednesdays and Saturdays
  • Odd numbered home addresses can water on Thursdays and Sundays
  • Watering is only allowed between 4:00 am – 10:00 am and 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Non-residential properties (including City ornamental lawns and grassed boulevards):

  • Even numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays between 1:00 am – 6:00 am
  • Odd numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays between 1:00 am – 6:00 am

The City’s bylaw enforcement officer will be closely monitoring compliance with the support of an Environmental Ambassador throughout the spring and summer. Residents who don’t follow Stage 2 restrictions could be fined.

According to the City, Kimberley’s water consumption is high compared to provincial averages and so residents are asked to look into ways they can conserve water year-round.
